This is the page for the days you do not want to read, you just want to press play. Dark fantasy, Viking, shamanic and RPG-ready music, sorted into playlists so one click gives you an hour or three of it. Pick one below and play it right here, or open it on YouTube and keep it running in another tab while you do whatever heroic or boring thing you were about to do.
What to play when
Tabletop nights: D&D, Pathfinder and friends
Something slow and heavy under exploration, something with drums when the dice start hurting. Keep the volume low enough that your players can still hear you describing the dragon. If they cannot, the music is winning and you should turn it down.
Reading, writing and studying
Music without a big chorus you will sing along to at the wrong moment. A little dread in the background is fine. It makes essays feel more epic than they are.
Gaming sessions
RPG grinds, boss fights and long crafting evenings all go better with a soundtrack that is not the game's own looping three minutes. Put a playlist on, lower the in-game music, and enjoy your new, slightly more dramatic life.
Lights off, headphones on
Some of these tracks are meant to be heard properly: dark room, good headphones, nobody talking to you. If you hear something move under the floor, that is probably the music. Probably.
Want the story behind the music?
Many tracks have a post with the myth they come from. Browse them on the Music page, or start with the mythology posts if you like your lore first.
